For those of you who are regular readers, you’ll notice today’s post is later than usual, but know it’s because today/last night my step-daughter got married. Yep, one wedding and luckily, no funerals!
There are a few hundred photos just taken by me, the evil step-monster. I promise not to make you endure the family and guest pics but I did want to share some from the reception, which was lovely. There will be a few fashion shots of the step-monster (me) fitting into her dream dress later in the week.
So following are a few of my favourite wedding reception photos…enjoy.
Rustic Theme: The reception theme was rustic and I think the bride did a great job getting the rustic yet elegant feel to the room.
Bridal Bouquet: My step-daughter asked me to do the flowers. I was a fair bit nervous but I think I did okay for an amateur. I loved adding in the gum-nuts as an ode to Australia.
The Room: I was really pleased with how lovely the reception venue looked. The groom made the easel at the door from some branches and it held a chalk-board that he made from old timber. It was used for the setting with each table added in with coloured chalk.
Bonbonniere: The little jars of jam were too adorable! They were made by the bride, her brother a chef, her sister and the brides mum. Aren’t they a clever lot?!
Bridal Party Table: The bridal party were at the front of the room at a long table. The rest of the guests sat at round tables.

Rustic Wedding Cake
The Wedding Cake: I was lucky enough to go with the bride to select a cake. She and I both love Red Velvet Cake and the first bakery we went to made a beautiful red velvet so they got the gig. I think they did a great job creating the brides dream cake…and I ate every bite of my cake!
Wedding Car: The bride, The Fashion Mister, the Bride’s Mum and daughter all rode in this fire-engine red Desoto to the wedding and the bride and groom rode in it to the reception. The bridesmaids and groomsmen came in a couple other vintage cars.
It was a great day, but I’m well glad that it’s over! I should sleep well now that I have shared photos from our one wedding and no funerals!

what a gorgeous wedding!! I love the little jam jars and the cake– you’re right, she did an amazing job making “rustic” elegant as well.

Thanks Mary!
The jam jars were too adorable!
And absolutely everyone took theirs home which is a bit unusual.

Thank you for the Bride and Groom!
In the next few days I’ll get a couple photos up of my outfit…of course it’s not as exciting as a wedding dress but I cleaned up okay.

{Sigh} What a glorious, beautifully themed reception. I love it. Okay, now I have to read more and find out who is in Australia, and who is in the US.

There was a fair bit of thought and effort on the Bride and Grooms part.
The rest of us just followed orders to get it set up.

Thank you Richard!
That means a lot coming from you!
The beauty of digital for me is that if I take enough photos, there’s bound to be a few good ones.
Plus I’m getting a little better the more I take.

What a lovely set of photos. Thanks for sharing the details. I really love the unique styling and the organic details of the cake, the framed chalkboard, and the centerpieces. You did a nice job with the flowers, too. I love that minty green, usually not one of my favorite colors but used to such wonderful effect here. A great day through and through. Are they honeymooning nearby, or are they off for an adventure?
February 17th, 2013 at 09:33
Thank you Alys!
They did a nice job with the pale green by keeping it to a minimum and just using it to highlight the theme. I loved the centerpieces with the slices of wood, candles and then the little gum-nuts sprinkled like confetti on the table. As you say, very organic. They have delayed the honeymoon for a couple of months and will stay in Australia. They don’t have the same wander-lust as the Fashion Mister and myself.

It really was lovely Gail.
I wasn’t so sure she was going to pull it off but I kept telling her that it was her wedding and they should do it their way. So glad she did!
