Sorry for misleading you, but today has nothing to do with fashion. The old vogue striking a pose here is all about some of the statuary in the local botanical gardens. The weather was lovely and I wanted to get out of the house so I drove up to the botanical gardens and decided to play tourist. Happily snapping shots as if I haven’t seen the botanical gardens a million and one times.
I must say it was great fun to look at the lovely spot with different eyes.
Strike a Pose: A number of years ago a couple of young vandals went through the garden and broke a lot of the statues. Luckily the city paid to get them fixed because they are just beautiful. I just can’t imagine what would make someone think it was okay to destroy such lovely creations that are over a hundred years old?
Well Protected: A few of the statues have always been housed in this old Victorian rotunda. Including this large statue of a fleeing man, woman and child. I love how the sculptor has carved the marble to look like the robe/cloth is actually being blown back by the wind.
Old Vogue: Yes, it’s Hermes – as in the messenger to the gods…not as in a fabulous new handbag! Modesty kind of creeps me out. Not the thought of being modest but this statue. The way the veil is draped over the face, it’s so real! I’m loving the big hoop earrings and statement necklace. She is one well accessorized goddess. Hercules knows how to strike a pose. Showing off his well sculpted muscles (sorry, couldn’t resist!).
Just a few of the statues at our botanical gardens doing a very old vogue and striking a pose.
Cheers,
Laura

Somehow, in some way these gorgeous statues have everything to do with fashion!

Most of them do!
There is the one with the beautiful flowing fabric over her face ala McQueen.
Then the one with the fantastic jewelry.
The guy with the odd milinery. and the chick begging so she can buy a new pair of shoes!
Cheers,
