We’ve all been seeing it on the runways and websites. I call it “Dark Romance” – lots of black, leather, lace dark and moody vibe. But how do you wear the dark romance trend and not look like a goth? Not that there is anything wrong with the gothic look. In fact there is obviously a lot cool about it or we wouldn’t still be seeing these looks on the runway. However, there has to be something between Alexander McQueen skulls and Vampire/Twilight chic that is appropriate for everyday wear. Or at least for an everyday girl to wear!
Haunting: Here I am haunting the old cemetery in town while wearing my version of the “Dark Romance” trend. Oxblood seems like the perfect colour to wear if you don’t want to go all black for this trend.
Go into the Light: I like all the contrasts in this look. The dark vibe of the skirt print but done on white. A white t-shirt worn with a sequined bomber jacket. Chains and metal capped shoes worn with pearls. It’s that mix that keeps the Romance in my look rather than having it all be absorbed into darkness. This juxtaposition of fabrics and finishes also keeps this look from becoming too costume which makes it something that an everyday woman like me can wear.
The Details: You may remember the skirt and bomber jacket from here and here. Both were purchased from ASOS.com but about 3 months apart. The bracelets are just a mix that I have acquired over the years. The clutch bag was actually a make-up bag giveaway item from Lancome that I have only ever used as a clutch! All finished with a basic white t-shirt and the Metal Toe Capped shoes from my Lust Have List Haul, by Kurt Geiger.
I’m kind of thinking some version of this look is going to make another night at L’Oreal Fashion Festival.
What do you think? Have I figured out how to wear the “Dark Romance” trend without looking like a goth?

Thanks, I really think that is the trick to the average person wearing this look.
There has to be some lightness or contrast to the Dark.

This could be a new favorite look on you. Great styling! I love the patterned skirt with the texture of the sequin and the more simple heels and clutch were perfect choices.

Thank you My Approving Stylist friend!

As you know, you have to mix it up a little or you look like you are wearing a costume.
And any excuse to dress up a plain white t-shirt makes me happy.
