It is summer here in the southern hemisphere and lately it has been really CRAZY hot. I’m talking WHITE HOT!
Which is my first tip to staying cool in the hot weather…wear white. We all know that a white car is cooler than a black car in the summer because it reflects light and heat, so dressing in white is going to keep you cooler than dark colours.
Staying Cool: As much as I dislike my “mature-aged” knees, when the temp gets over 35C (that’s 100F for you up north) fewer clothes is better. However, just because I am wearing shorts doesn’t mean I need to look like a beach bum. I’m wearing a cute white lace top/dress from Glassons, purchased last summer, with a pair of white cotton shorts from Country Road purchased on clearance over the winter. White on white keeps it cool and fresh. Add in the hits of silver and turquoise to keep it current.
White Hot: This lace top, is actually a dress! However, as a taller woman, it really only works for me as a dress. I love the fitted top and full skirt but shorts are mandatory to provide adequate coverage. Another nice thing about wearing all white…no matter how pale my skin is I look a little tan when in white. I have nearly worn out this little pair of silver sandals but can’t seem to part with them. I’m pretty sure they were a Target find from a couple of years ago. Which means I couldn’t have spent more the $20 on them.
Accessories: I totally went with silver and turquoise for this look. Along with the silver sandals and the turquoise and silver op shop necklace, I have used my DIY oversized silver metallic clutch. The stack of bracelets are by Samantha Wills and were a Christmas present from the Fashion Mister. This is the third lovely wooden box I have received with Samantha Wills jewelry inside during the last 9 months and I have a whole list of “lust-haves” from her collection that I am hoping to add! The big white watch is one of my favourite accessories and at $20, I wish I had bought a spare.
A few years ago I avoided white but this year I am loving it in everything from a white t-shirt to white denim and blazers.
Dressing white-hot is my next tip on staying cool in the hot weather.
Do you wear white? All year round or just in the summer?

What a great idea to turn this lace dress as a top! I love it. You look adorable.
As you can imagine, white is also one of my favorite “cool down” color.
Keep cool and have a great day or I should say evening.

Thanks Anne!
We are doing our best to stay cool!
I’m really loving white this summer for both it’s cooling effect and the fact that it is a great match for bright splashes of colour.

Me too Paula!
A little of the unexpected, a show of personality, a place to draw the eye…all good reasons for a pop of colour.

That “dress-top” is amazing on you! White is popular here in the US’s Deep South as well.

I keep finding all these cute “dresses” that are WAY too short for me to wear as a dress so I just wear them all as tops.
Sometimes by just adding a pair of leggings and sometimes with pants but the white really suits itself to shorts in the summer.

Love it! Seriously that dress is a beaut and totally works as a long top with shorts. You look like you should be watching a polo match! We just need to get you a big, fab hat. x

I have plenty of big fab hats thanks to my love of horse racing and attending the Spring Carnival Races!
However, I have never attended the polo. In fact I’m not even sure where or if it is played in Australia??

What an awesome idea! It’s so funny, I was looking at your photos and I was thinking what an unusually long peplum – how unique! Funny that it was a dress! I think it looks amazing!

Thanks Kenya!
Sometimes I have to be creative with the pieces I like.
Fortunately, this time it works.

haha
January 15th, 2013 at 13:50
LOL!
I’m sure that you would love a little hot weather to come your way….I promise it will be there!
January 15th, 2013 at 13:03
Your knees look fab! Promise me you will not use that term again! SHEESH!
Love that it is SO DARN HOT down there – I really should never have left Cairns!!!!
Cold in Boston but love your white hot outfit!
Enjoy some warmth for me too please….
January 15th, 2013 at 13:52
You are too kind!
They don’t look awesome but for nearly 50 they are still in good working order so I can’t complain.
From Cairns to Boston is a big switch! But then Boston is such a fantastic city and Cairns can get a little too hot and sticky.
Cheers,

Did I ever tell you I grew up in Cairns for the first six years of my life?
From what I remember it was gorgeous!! But I also recall a lot of jellyfish half the year…
January 18th, 2013 at 06:49
No, you only mentioned it in your last message!
Cairns is nice but way too hot and humid for me most of the year.
But a fantastic place to visit on holiday.
So are you English, military or good ol’ Aussie?

Love it! The white and silver together looks so great!
January 15th, 2013 at 13:53
Thanks Caroline!
I love white and silver together and find that I rarely go for gold with white. Must just be some connection my brain makes.

Reading your post has made me so jealous as it’s freeeeeeezzzzzing here in the UK
Oh how I long to be in my Summer clothes. Love your white lace top, it’s lovely
January 15th, 2013 at 21:29
Don’t worry Sam, until about mid November I was freeeeezzzzing here!
We probably only have another 4 to 6 weeks before the weather begins to cool again so I am taking full advantage.
Thanks for stopping by.
