There are so many crazy things going on in the world of nail polish and even though I don’t usually post about nail trends, I wanted to share a few with you that I would wear.
Back in the 80s when acrylic nails first became popular (yes, I really am that old), we used to wear them long and air-brushed with any mad assortment of designs. Once I started nursing, I kind of let the nails go and although they looked nice, I didn’t spend much time on them. Seemed there was no point when I couldn’t wear polish.
Luckily for me, my role has changed and for about the last 2-3 months I have been making it a point to go get a manicure on a regular basis. Sometimes I do “normal” colours that are completely appropriate for work but I find myself gravitating to the slightly more extreme styles more often than not. Blue, green sparkle and now the neutral with black tips!
I just couldn’t resist. I’ve seen it around the blogosphere and I wanted it.
In the 24 hours that I have had my nails done this way, I have had at least 5 people comment on how much they like my nails. I’m almost wondering if that is just conservative Ballarat way of saying, “That’s a bit much”?Or if they really do like them.
If I didn’t keep forgetting how great my nails look right now I would really be getting paranoid!
p.s. I now know why everyone on the nail blogs show off their nails with their fingers bent in…my hands are looking OLD! ACK!!
Would you wear this nail look? Is this nail look too much for a “woman my age”?

I love this polish look on you! I think you should wear whatever you want on your nails regardless of your age. Painting your nails should make you feel pretty!

Thanks Janice,
I love having my nails polished as it makes me feel finished and polished. It’s just a matter of how much I can get away with in both my conservative town and relatively conservative role at work.
But it never hurts to push the boundaries a bit!

Hey,
I don’t do finger nails but have a pedicure fortnightly in a group, it’s so fun going together choosing colours and laughing about our fortnight. I LOVE your black tips, they look so fun and naughty; subversive nail art. I have noticed some of the girls doing this look with colour but you are the first I’ve seen rocking the black. Good choice,
Portia xx

Thanks Portia!
I almost did a deep purple colour but my heart was really in the black. Perhaps because I wear so much black and white? And definitely because I have a subversive streak in me!

Laura

Thanks Preethi!
You are such a sweetie.
It has to have a little say as my blog is style for a mature aged woman…
BUT…it doesn’t mean I have to be a frumpy granny pants!

love those nails – they look hot! I have wanted to try the “lace nails” look. Have you seen them? They’re made of pieces of lace on the nails covered in clear lacquer. Like this: http://studslace1.blogspot.com.au/2011/12/studs-lace-nails.html

I haven’t seen the lace look…that would be very pretty.
About a month ago I did a silver base with a bright blue crackle finish that was pretty cool.

Laura, I do my own manicure and pedicure and keep my nails short. I have experimented with colors on my nails and I must say I love yellow, green, blue, neon orange, or light purple, all colors I would not wear a few years ago, but now I do. However, I will never wear black or grey on my nails. After all we want to look good and attractive, black or grey make the hands cease to live, as black detract light and grey is just a dead color as well. Wearing these colors on the body is one thing, painting nails is another thing. At night, I will always choose the brightest red ever invented for lips and nails.

Thanks for your suggestions Valentina,
I think I would love to have neon orange nails, as orange is my favourite colour!
Just can’t do bright red, I thinking it looks shocking on me but I can get away with more of the burgandy colours.
Guess too much yellow in a red is bad for me and more blue-red is good.
Cheers,
Laura

Laura, if you have an undertone of pink/ivory/pale skin, then blue, light blue, light purple or silver nail polish would go better with your tone. However fire red, or deep burgundy is stunning in the night with just any kind of skin tone.

Luckily those are all colours I like!
