In continuing our look at the plaid trend for 2012, I have done a round-up of a few items that could be added to any wardrobe to get a little plaid going on. So if you have a trend list that you are working your way through, you check plaid off the list!
I couldn’t resist the classic plaid shirt. Two great things about this shirt…1) It’s by the man who has been the king of plaid, Ralph Lauren, for his Denim & Supply line, and 2) the colours keep it fresh. You’ve probably seen mint skinny jeans on every fashion blog in the blogosphere and this is a great shirt to wear with them! This shirt can be found for 40 pounds (about $100) at Coggles.com. Add a denim jacket and you are really rocking the classics.
If you are interested in sticking with the old school classics, here’s a skirt from A.P.C. that can be found on ASOS.com for less than $95. The blue and yellow plaid definitely have a bit of school girl about them but I don’t think you could have worn your skirt that short at any private school! I like the way the skirt is styled in this photo but I would probably wear it with my pale yellow cashmere top and black bomber jacket just to make it a little tough. Although the bomber jacket could also give it a bit of that “Varsity/Sporty” look that is also very much on trend right now.
When looking for plaid shorts I found so many options. Many were heavier weight and suitable to wear for work or with tights in the winter. However I wanted to share a pair that would be good in the summer but weren’t pink or bright. Naturally I chose this pair because I have so many shirts that I could wear with them. These puckered plaid shorts can be found for less than $30 at Anthropologie.
How cute are these plaid pants from J Brand?! I love the subtle pattern and already have a major crush on all things J Brand. If you are like me with a wardrobe full of black, white and grey they will definitely work right into high rotation. However, I think they would also look pretty cool with a bright or neon top, which would have you checking off two trends at once. What about a pair of metal cap toed flats as well? Three trends in one adorable look. These are currently on sale at Shopbop.com for under $65.
So now we know there are easy pieces to add to our wardrobes that allow us to check and double-check the plaid trend.
Are you wearing it? Winter or Summer? Perhaps both?

OMG! I’m looking at my Denim & Supply plaid shirt. Other than for a slight color tone difference (could be from photography) it’s the same.
