We have been living in black and white this week and to finish things off I have done a round-up of some vintage pieces that fully embrace the black and white life.
I always find far too many things that I like when we do the vintage search for the week, and that wasn’t any different this week. following are pieces that I would consider adding to my wardrobe (the only way I could narrow it down!).
She Sells Seashells – There are two things I really like about this dress – yes, one of them is that it is black and white! The other is the print. Seashells are pretty hot right now. After all Karl Lagerfeld did the whole under the sea thing for Chanel and you know everyone else will be following. I’ve been seeing references to mermaids, seahorses and all that. So for a vintage dress, it is very on trend! Plus, it’s got a real 40s vibe going on, which I absolutely love!
Fabulous 40s – Just to prove that I really do love the 40s look…here’s another one! I really like that the white stripes in the skirt are hidden in the pleats so they only show when you walk or the skirt is extended. By a little swing dancing perhaps? The white-collar is very prim and proper. All you need are the pearls your handbag and gloves and you’re off to a lunch date with the girls.
Peplum Print – This is an 80s version of a 40s dress. I’ve shown it here because of the peplum which is so hot right now. This dress would really show off your waist and as the skirt is the same cut as a pencil skirt, it will look great on anyone. It could be worn to the office during the day and if you add a big black statement necklace and a stack of bangles with fierce heels it could take you to the night.
Black & White Leather Sweater – As we are heading into winter here in Oz, I went searching for a black and white sweater/jumper and fell in love with this! I know it is totally 80s but I really like that it is leather!! How cool would it look with a pair of white skinny jeans? And white pointed toe, metal capped heels! A crisp white button-down shirt underneath, left untucked. I would so wear that look in a heartbeat!
Black & White Jacket – I love the cut and the length of this jacket. Perfect for wearing to the office. It reminds me a bit of vintage Chanel, but at far less $$$! It’s one of those jackets I would get a lot of wear out of because it can make a casual outfit work appropriate and brings just a little bit of class to whatever you already have on. With a skirt, plain shirt and a scarf around your neck you are the most stylish lady in the building. Dress up or down, you’d get your monies worth from this jacket/blazer.
Check Mate – And just for fun…check out this pair of black and white checked stirrup pants! I think they would be great if you wanted to do layers on top, mixing a white shirt, untucked, black vest or sweater, add in a b & w plaid scarf and black military style boots or Docs. I’d probably have to find a way to wear them with my black leather varsity jacket. No matter how they are worn, they would be fun but playing up contrasting prints would be a great look for these stirrup pants.
How would you style these stirrup pants?
Now that we have painted everything black or a whiter shade of pale, it is time to stop living in black and white. This trend has been good to explore and will always be one of my favourites for its classic look but it’s time to move on.
